How do casting directors find real people for commercials? Sometimes it’s through street casting, sometimes it’s through research, and sometimes it’s simply knowing the right person to call.
At Vitamin Enriched, we’ve specialized in real people casting since 2004. We started in New York City, but our work has taken us across the country, finding everyday people with interesting stories, distinctive personalities, unique skills, and authentic relationships.
And while casting calls, social media, and research are all important tools, some of our greatest resources are the personal networks, community relationships, knowledge, and reach we’ve built over more than two decades.
Finding real people isn’t always as simple as posting a casting notice and waiting for submissions.
Most of the people we’re looking for aren’t actors. They’re business owners, athletes, parents, artists, professionals, hobbyists, and people who have never considered appearing in a commercial.

We got our start street casting in New York City, approaching interesting people in everyday life who might be perfect for a commercial.
And we still believe there’s tremendous value in discovering someone simply because they have a compelling look, personality, or presence.
But street casting is only one part of what we do.
When a project requires a very specific person, profession, skill, or life experience, we rely on targeted research and community outreach.
We might contact local businesses, professional associations, sports organizations, neighborhood groups, or individuals within a particular community.
Social media and digital advertising help us extend that reach even further.
Every project requires a different strategy. Sometimes the right person is around the corner. Other times, finding them means searching across the country.
Once we’ve found someone who fits the casting brief, we still need to determine whether they’re right for the camera.
